Well after a rather heated debate with my Step-dad he told my my sporter 10/22 is the stupidest thing he'd seen and that no one would go in the field with me with a "mock assault rifle" -his words not mine. He's been known to be an arrgent jack-*ss... So my question is there any truth to that? I know my kit looks like an M4 but I don't care what he/other's think it's what I find comfortable and fit's my needs!

sorry to rant a little it just really pisses me off when I put a lot of time and effort into something and for him to pull that sh*t on me.

It's not my thing either, but he could be more tactful. In the end, anyone that wouldn't shoot with you just because of how it looks is a tool bag in my opinion.

Yes, there is truth in that your father in law is an a$$! :D
my AMT looks like a mini 14 tactical gun, but that was all I had at the time. Sounds like you will have more fun shooting without him, so who cares what he thinks???

first, there are no assault rifles.. hence there cannot be fake assault rifles.
second. if people wont hunt with you just because your .22 is tacticool screw them.. as long as it hits its intended target who cares. it works for you, the shooter. its better to make good clean kills with what works. than to wound animals with a weapon you cant shoot well.
now post a pic so we can see the cool factor!

Ding ding ding...show her what she's won Bob...

It's your rifle, you're happy with it, eff him in his ear...paint it pink just to piss him off...:D

But yeah, about no one going in the field with you... those forest critters can be pretty judgemental sometimes...

Just 'pretend' to listen to his advice and stay on his good-side. Who knows, someday you might inherit some of his guns to strip down and 'tacticalize' them to your desires and make him roll over in his grave!

My wifes 22 is a S&W M&P 15-22. You really cant look more like an AR than that. She loves it because it fits.

While I'm not a big fan of the tactical .22, it's really a case of personal preference. As long as you're making shots, that's really all that matters. Anyone who wouldn't hunt with you just because of your gun is an idiot.

Thanks guy's, it just really got to me last night because he wouldn't drop it. I told him that if he doesn't want to go out into the field with him because I don't have a wood stocked marlin model 60 (nothing wrong with it) then so be it! He was also complaining because I bought a 25 round banana mag for the range and he wouldn't let me explain that the 10 rounder would be used in the field? He said I cant go out with the factory mag? So I told him his model 60 held 16 and it shut him up real quick! Really who is he to tell ME what I want for me and my firearms!

Shoot him in the ass with it. He already hates the gun, might as well give him a reason.

That was sarcasm. But seriously, tell him to go to hell.

Sure as hell not the owner of the gun. I bought a bunch of Ruger 25 round magazines before I bought my 10/22. It's not about looks. It's about cutting down how many times I have to reload. I want to spend the day shooting, not reloading magazines.

He sounds like someone who like it in their cozy little box. No need to see whats outside. It's scary out there. If it were me, I'd tell him to shut his pie hole. If he doesn't want to shoot with you because of stupid petty crap, then so be it. I don't want to shoot with you because you're an @sshole.

The problem I run into in my area is landowners are already against people shooting rifles on their land. Making a gun all tacti-cool sure won't help your case. If that is your father in laws reason for his rant you should respect it.

But if he is on a rant just because he doesn't like your gun you need to find another buddy to go shooting with. Making him mad won't do anything for you. After all, he is your wife's father. When you marry someone you marry their family too. In the end, making her happy is the most important part.

It's his mothers husband, step dad. Which is far worse, IMO. You would think that he would be trying to build a relationship.

    ooopppsss!! Sorry about the mistake.

The same principals apply except it's his mom. In the end, he wants to make Mom happy. Which is even more important. You only get one Mother - can't trade her in.
