Hey does anyone know the name of the festival that teaches children to shoot. I think its Apple somethin?? Thanks in advance

I've been teaching with Appleseed for three years now. It's not just for kids, bring the whole family. They will get some of the best instruction on the safe and proper use of the rifle.

We allow any legal rifle, rim fire or center fire, open sights or scope, semi-auto or bolt gun, it does not matter. We say that you "run what you brung."

Most instructors are like me, we all bring extra rifles to loan out to those who may not have a rifle but want to learn. I carry a Cricket, a youth sized 10-22, a Compact 10-22, a Regular Carbine 10-22 all set up with peep-sights and slings.

think i'm gonna attend my first appleseed in a couple of months. really looking forward to it. how hard is it to make rifleman?

It sounds like a great event, but at the end of the day there is still no substitute for good old one on one......like father son or father daughter shooting times. I can't even describe how much I treasure the time I get to spend with my 11 year daughter at the range, it's gotten to the point where it's one of the few things she wants to do with me anymore.

If you can shoot 4 MOA you can make Rifleman.

The most important thing is to bring a teachable attitude.

We try to put a weeks worth of training into a two day even. Its referred to as "drinking from the end of a fire hose."

I have never been to an event that I did not meet some of the best people out there.

well, i can shoot near MOA....on a bench

. without a bench is where i need the most work. i think what i need from appleseed, is more instruction on practical shooting. and from what i hear, it is great training for that.

i will bring my most teachable attitude, no problem there! bringing the ammo will be much more of a problem right now.

Hey Precision - looking at doing this with my son this summer. From what I'm reading, everything above is spot on, but it sounds like a pretty intense weekend physically. Hearing about some of us older guys may have some trouble since part of it is timed and moving between stances, well, the young kids do better than us

Is it easier/better to run this with a .22lr (at least the first time), or just as easy to run a larger caliber (for me, not him)?
