Alright heres my dillema. I've had my heart set on the taurus pt92 for a while now. Well I went up to my local gun shop and they had a taurus pt917 SS 9mm for sale for a lot cheaper than I was going to get the pt92 for. I love how the pt917 felt in my hand, it felt balanced and I loved the finger grooves. The only thing is that I still like the look of the longer slide on the pt92 a lot better than the 917. I know the the pt917 has the same frame as the pt92, so I was wondering if I could put the longer rail and slide from the pt92 onto the pt917? Since they have the same frame I don't see why it would be a problem, but I havent been able to find a definite yes or no answer. I plan on calling Taurus, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this first.

EDIT: I would also have to exchange the barrel too. After doing some research I've heard that the barrel sticks out over an inch when you exchange the parts from the pt92. I don't think that would be too pretty, so if this is the case, can I get the barrel machined to a length that I would like without affecting performance?

The rail is part of the frame, so that couldn't be changed. You might be able to buy a slide, barrel, guide rod, and recoil spring, but unless you are getting the 917 for nearly free you will end up spending way more than buying just the PT92 in the first place. And that is assuming it will fit.

I say find a 92. Everytime you look at the 917, you will wish you were looking at a 92. trust me :) .

As has been mentioned, you'll end up spending a lot more money than if you just bought a PT 92. A decent used PT 92 is not very expensive anyway as I have just a tad over $300 in this factory two-tone model...

Well I havent shot the 917 yet, but I plan on shooting both the pt92 and the 917 this sunday. This will ultimately decide which gun I choose, I like the looks of the 917 enough that if i shoot better with the 917 I will get it, but if I end up shooting the same with both guns, I'll go with the pt92 for it's looks. I was just wondering if down the line I would be able to do this conversion. I just love the finger grooves the 917 has, it feels so perfect in my hand. I've heard they made a version of the pt92 with the grooves as well, I just havent been able to find any information on it, much less the gun itself.

Doesn't count, it was just for trade value. Basically to take advantage of all the gullible glocksters out there.

    :D
