I just got my CCL and am using that as a reason to purchase a new handgun. I have a couple of nice compact revolvers that I use as a carry weapon, but I want to move to a semi. I have decided on either the Taurus millenium pro .40, or the XD Sub Compact .40 I am really leaning toward the XD. I would appreciate any comments on either. Thanks.

XD, the Taurus isn't even on the same page. With a Taurus it's a crapshoot whether you get a good one or a bad one. Spend some time with Google and you'll see what I mean...

Or just look at your local gun shop's used counter. How many Tauruses do you see in that case compared to XD's?

I would have to concur, the XD is a better pistol and it has MANY, MANY fans that swear by it.

The Taurus seems to be hot and cold. When someone likes them, they really like them, but when they don't, they hate them.

Taurus guns themselves are hot & cold which is a shame. They make some neat stuff, I checked out their LCP clone and it had a great trigger and looked very well made. I'd never buy a Taurii again though as I've gotten a lemon and once is enough to teach me a lesson...

I appreciate all the feed back. I did do a little more checking on the net about the Tuarus, and truth is there is a lot "issues" with them. I looked for some bad reviews on the XD and, well, I'm still looking. I believe it is the one I am going with. Thanks alot again.

Is that true? I am still looking for an all steel 1911 for my 1911 torture test. I can't touch ANYTHING in these parts that has 1911 on the frame for less than $450 plus tax out the door.... :(

Again, get the XD....if you're going to buy a 1911(and you should) buy a good one.

OP closed the door on that by specifying .40S&W...1911s don't come in nothin' but .45ACP round these parts.:D

BTW...XD is by far the best choice of the 2.

Well this thread is kinda prescient!

Made the long trek to a gun shop out west today; was looking for a target rifle sling but that's apparently too specialised to stock :p most rifle shooters here being hunters that's the only type they had. However while I was there was surprised to find out they also sold pistols (as none were on display - you had to ask and they went into a 'secret' backroom lol)

The guy brought out a few for me have a hold of: M&PL (still think it feels great), a honest-to-goodness-authentic Colt 1911 (sorry JD, still too damn heavy, and I couldn't afford the hefty loan anyway ) and a Taurus 24/7. It does feel very comfortable...and many guns just don't since I have ridiculously small hands. Hey even the mag release could be easily reached for a lefty.

But I will be guided by the god Google & you knowledgeable guys reports here (since I can't do any kind of test-firing) although the reviews seem to be rather mixed on the 24/7, some glowing some not so much.. Luckily they are getting a couple of HS 2000s in sometime in the first half of next year, so I will be able to handle the XD for comparison, though it can't be the XDm I really lust after.

[Guy told me the reason they have to wait so long...HS Precision gets 15 000 orders from Springfield; filled right away...they get *ahem* 50 from Australia...hell, we can wait lol]

No offense but not everyone wants to get a 1911. Do not get me wrong about the 1911, I have several of them and am fond of them but they are not for everyone. I have had both the Taurus and Ruger, for many years and loved both of them.
