a friend offered me the ruger p97 dc (i think its dc) for 200 dollars. im pretty sure thats a great price, but is it a good gun? i have read many mixed reviews, and have yet to shoot it, but i am interested.

i have fired the taurus 24/7 pro .45, and i found it to be a pretty awesome gun, especially for the price. any thoughts on this gun?

    which one would you choose?

I would take that Ruger in a heartbeat, especially over the Taurus.

Seems like an easy choice...The Ruger for the win, at that price you are ahead easily.

I have owned the Ruger P95 and P94DC and loved them both as they were flawless. Taurus for the most part IMHO are crappy. Thats just me. Have heard nothing but complaints mainly about the craftsmanship.

What Taurus? If it was a PT1911 I'll take that over most any Ruger. Taurus does make some pretty good wheel guns but that 1911 is one of the best in it's price range.

I like Ruger. But I like to shoot my guns instead of waiting to have them returned from the factory for repairs. I have had 2 Taurus'. Both were bad.

Easy choice at that price. My dad has a P95 with no issues... I mean I wouldn't carry it for defense but cool for range.

I'd get an early colonoscopy before I bought a Taurus polymer handgun...

I've not shot that model Taurus but hear good things about it. AS to the P97 it suffers what many other full size P series Rugers suffer. The grips are a little wide. I had and sold a P94 for just that reason. I will say the one I had was pretty accurate and it had no problems with it's function.

There have been several on this forum as well as some others I've been to that had problems with Taurus semi autos. I have not hand any issues with function it's more a grip problem for me. I do have two of the PT1911's and will put those up against many other more costly pistols and they will hold their own. But being a 1911 guy I would not send one for repair anyway and just do it myself unless there was some type of structural defect. I have thousands of rounds through my stainless and it always help make me look good. If I can get a 3-4" group at 50 yards there is nothing I can say genitive about it.

If your choosing between the two you have mentioned I"l go with the one that fits you best. Just understand that neither of these pistols will hold value like something like a Springfield, Colt, Kimber etc. But iof you're just getting it as a tool and not an investment both will serve their intended purpose. But you might want to save your money a lite longer adn lok at pistols like the XD Springer, A CPO Sig Sauer, or even one of the FNP modeld from FN.Even a Rock Island 1911 would serve your needs much better in my opinion.

Even though I rock an older model Taurus (and love it), I say go for the Ruger.

Ruge. I have a p89 and will be purchasing another ruger in a few months. Mine like everyone else that has one can say they are built like tanks. No matter what else i get i will never get rid of my p89.

At that price (not any more) go with the Ruger, just know that anything in the P series will never hold much value. They are great shooters, but they are pretty plain and a dime a dozen.

    Stay away from Taurus pistols!

Funny, I feel the same way about Rugers...stay away at all costs.

Heck, get ANYTHING but a Ruger.

My wifey's carry is a Taurus 24/7 C (compact) 9mm, which she regularly makes top 3 with at the IDPA meets :)

You are entitled to your opinion, sir. Most of us here enjoy a quality, solid, reliable, American made piece of steel (referring to their revolvers of course) when choosing a handgun.

I've got Rugers that have been shot weekly for 30 years and still as solid as the day they came outta the box. To each their own!

I have shot many rugers and a few Taurus pistols.

I like the Rugers my self.

The one Taurus Revolver I shot felt less than good quality. It had a tinny sound like you were shooting a tin can. It also rattled inside and was 2 days old. After that I lost interest in them as a pistol I would buy.

I also prefer to see the MADE IN AMERICA on my firearms as well....
