I was flipping through the channels today wanting to watch the yearly day packed with D-Day documentaries... Only to be disappointed. I go to the History Channel (aka the Aliens/Truckers/Swampers/Moonshiners/Pickers/Pawners/Monster Channel) and what do they have? "Hitlers Hi-Tech" or something like that... Then I go to H2 and they are showing MonsterQuest. Really?! What is the world coming to? The American Heroes Channel (formerly the Military Channel, and formerly my favorite channel) was showing WWII in Color, but that was expected of them. AMC was showing Windtalkers, an exceptional movie, which I guess counts. I was really hoping to see Band of Brothers or WWII in HD or something good. Instead I got monsters and Hitlers hi-tech... The history channel has really gone to crap. It used to be a great channel, showing documentaries and shows that were informative and historical, but have now resorted to garbage like The World Wars... Sorry for the rant, I just wanted to blow off some steam.

All the channels are junk. Don't forget Honey Booboo was on TLC (The Learning Channel)!!!!! And MTV still stands for Music Television despite not having any music in how many years? All the channels figured out that they could boost their ratings by putting on the junk they do even if it has nothing to do with the premise behind what the channel is suppose to be about. Rather than put any effort into producing quality shows and raising the bar in their respective fields and creating something that's beneficial to society it's easier and cheaper to just put on some mindless Jerry Springer babble. I think your IQ drops 30 points just from cutting a TV on now, and you're in really trouble if you actually listen to it.

And I think that pretty much sums up corporate America right now as well? Just produce junk and don't worry about innovation.

It would be nice to see someone produce a quality show about D-day like Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers, but that isn't likely to happen anytime in the near future. :(

It is the dumbing down of America in full swing.

Whether its some kind of government conspiracy or the fact that your average person below the age of 35 couldn't give two $h!ts about WW2 or WW1 for that matter.

Either way the facts are undeniable. As a population we are in a reverse evolution.

Well the History Channel has a series on D-Day in HD. Surely they can't screw this up. WWII from Space is currently showing, it's not bad, but some of the "experts" have sorta liberal views, demonizing many events. But this is better than Ice Road Truckers...

There are a lot of historical videos on Utube. You can link them to your TV with the proper set up.

It's the Zombie Apocalypse. It may not be the walking dead type of Zombies but that is what the schools are training now. Teachers read from a book rather than knowing what they teach. If a child challenges what the teacher is taking about they are considered trouble makers. The only place this is not happening is home schools and some private schools. See it everyday, kids stand in the middle of the street and expect the car to move out of their way.

I agree. It is sad. But I'm not surprised. It's to be expected. 70 years is 200 lifetimes in popular culture these days where folks seem to care more about their 15 minutes of fame than the real history that provides them the freedoms they enjoy today.

What's even sadder is the fact that we all know history is destined to repeat itself if we don't learn from it.

Folks living today, or in the next couple of generations, have no idea just how bad things are going to get for them if they don't take some time to understand the sacrifices others have made...

This is the sad truth. I'm 19 and have always loved history" especially about the World Wars. I never understood why my classmates and the school staff weren't interested in any of it. I talked to one of my teachers and he said it's because none of the interesting stuff is in the curriculum. Almost everything taught about all wars is purely political and government related history.

History channel used to be awesome, anytime I tuned it it was black and white footage of WWII, Korea, Vitenam. Usually WWII, I miss that opportunity, there were lots of repeats but it was good programming.

The History Channel is an empty shell of its original purpose. It should be fairly renamed the Reality Show Channel.

Speaking of the AHC. What was wrong with "Military Channel"? No place for militarism on our TV? Please say it ain't so...

"American Heroes" is pure demagoguery. The channel is about war history in general, and guns in particular. Maybe not anymore, but the "heroes" sticker is a sordid miscarriage of political correctness.

I was told by an expert who frequently appeared on the former Military Channel that they told him that the reason they changed the name and programming is so that they could market and air reality shows...

The marketing experts concluded that history doesn't sell advertising. (Except Viagra and adult diapers). Can't argue with the ratings...

D-Day wasnt all that long ago even if very few folks are left alive that know of it personally much less participated. Rewriting history usually doesnt begin till after they are all gone, today it happens in real time. That began when Vietnam ended, it was a chance to right the wrongs, change reality to perception and allow those that made huge errors in judgement to clean out their closets so to speak.

The picture they staged D-Day this year with all the current leaders of Europe, former USSR and Britain represents something that wasnt, 20 nations unified to save Europe, it was the USA that saved all their sorry asses. There should have been 1 nations leader in that picture, ours (not because BHO deserves that but our nation does). We had no horse in that race yet we spent our GDP of Humans and equipment for generations to come to save those that werent prepared or capable of saving themselves.

Americas best didnt deserve to be lumped in with the French, Russians or Germans on D-day remembrance day; sorry, our losses that day and in that war were primarily their gains. I see nothing right about that picture when nearly every cross in those acres had a dead American planted under it. I listened to some of BHO's speech, it was nothing short of recognizing the new world orders vision of One World-Nationalism.

WTF is next, maybe Pearl Harbor day we can have some of To-jo's offspring cackling about their brave Kamikazi's with BHO the magnificent, talk about the good ol days when Japan tried to destroy our Nation? Maybe the Queen could honor Britain's commitment to the Revolutionary war on Independence Day. Hell, MLK day would be even better if we had representatives of all the Colonial Governments that brought slavery to every corner of the world explain why if it hadnt been for them, We wouldnt have an MLK Day Celebration to attend that day! I know, Christmas would be much more inclusive if we had some meaningful retrospect of Pilots dilemma. Maybe we can find some Nazi Sympathizers to speak on behalf of Hitlers benevolence during Chanukah, after all, he left some of them alive. Maybe Arafat and Klinghoffers offspring could bury the axe and celebrate the invention of a stylish drink, A Klinghoffer Cocktail, two shots and a splash, after all, that was so long ago!

Nearly every nation represented in that picture/ photo op has bashed America like a drum, they talk down about our nation and its citizens like they are our Daddies and were stupid children. Thanks but no thanks, I know who my daddy was, the freedom fights and the fathers of our nation were better men alone on their worst days than all of these crap talkers and their Kings, Mullahs, TaterDicks, are/ were on their best. They should be bowing to us not the other way around.

Have you ever heard a Brit speak German? It sounds ridiculous, the speech patterns are so very different, like a Southerner with a drawl speaking Korean (Ive heard it, its funny). If it wasnt for my Grandaddy and yours, every swinging Limey, Ruskie and French Fry would be be speaking German today, just sayin......

    Rant over...

Wow. There's one girl in my class who never ceases to amaze me, she thought Belgium was a religion, Japan was part of the US, and why nobody had fought any world wars over Antarctica... It's scary how uneducated some people are.

If you think that America had no horse in that race, you are wrong. America did not want a Europe dominated by the Nazis or the Russians. Theodore Roosevelt, recognised that, to think Americas support was some selfless act and they were not fighting out of self interest as well is wrong. As for looking for a supporter of Hitler the leader of the Republic of Ireland was well known sympathiser.
