How do I determine the style of my gun I want to buy a stock for mine and I noticed the Remington has letters after the 700 part. I looked on barrel but couldn't find anything on it to determine what it is. Mines a Remington 700 short action and has synthetic stock.

    8e8,

If your rifle does not have a magazine drop plate in front of the trigger guard it is a 700 ADL Short Action. They were chambered for calibers like 22-250, 243 Winchester, 6 MM and similar length cartridges. Of course you could get the ADL in the larger cals but they were long actions.
If it a 700 BDL it will have magazine drop plate on it that has a button to release the plate so you can unload it from the bottom of the stock. The release button or latch is located on the top front of the trigger guard.
If we could see some pictures we could give you a more educated answer.
