I need to purchase an OWB holster for my new 1911 Springfield SS. The question I have is. Will a kydex holster such as White Hat or Crossbreed scratch the crap out of it?

I carry a Stainless CZ75B in a kydex holster, and haven't noticed any scratching yet.

I know Kydex will scratch the coating or bluing on guns eventually. Some guns hold up better than others. I wouldn't expect to see much on a stainless gun. Even so the scratches should be light enough so you can polish them out.

I havent seen any scratching from the kydex holsters but I have seen some finish wear on blued guns from them. More so from the looser fitting holsters that let the pistol move a little, pivoting on a specific area. A high quality custom molded kydex should not have that problem.

Don't want your gun to show any signs of wear? Put it back in the safe.

Ever had a nice pair of shoes that got scuffed no matter how careful you tried to be with them? Same thing. You wear it, carry it, it's gonna pick up dings, scratches, and nicks.

That said, a leather holster is less likely to produce any wear marks on the gun. At least, until you get in your car/truck and you're wearing jeans with rivets.

I have a SS Springfield and a Kydex holster which I use only for matches/training. Not enough carry to notice any wear, but I can tell you something else. A little holster wear means little to me when I consider buying a handgun. Not all but most that are carried a lot are shot a little.

I know you're probably right but I always shoot my carry guns. They're the only ones I NEED to be accurate with.

stainless steel will probably show less wear than a blued model. blued pistols will wear some of the blueing off if carried enough.

IMO, it kind of gives the pistol it's own character.
