I have a dealer friend who found me this rifle. (says he'd be proud to own it)

    http://www.spikestactical.com/new/z/st-black-assassin-556-145-16oal-p-918.html

I was pretty much open to anything as long as I didn't have to wait 6 months.

I used to use a Colt M4 for work (US Army long time ago). It's been 10 years since I have been around any firearms (I was a work-a-holic general contractor) so when all this gun and ammo crap started in DC, I became concerned that my young son might need an heirloom to ensure his liberty one day. Time to get smart on firearms, reloading and other than work related skills

I'll post the specs and ask if they are worth it or not? I am just now delving into learning all the improvements and options surrounding the AR rifle platform these days. I look forward to reading comments from all y'all more experienced gents. Thanks in advance.

    v/r
    Mike

I've personally only had 2 ish spikes and both were overgassed (2 uppers and a complete one) I don't personally like the Dynacomp. I think its just obnoxiously loud and doesn't do much for compensation or recoil mitigation. It makes a very disctintive sound.

I wouldn't think twice about buying one again tho if I were in the market for one. Mine ran like a top, wasn't a picky eater, and never gave me issues.

    Nice rifle, wall!

New guys, when we ask for specs, this is what we're talkin' about. This quality rifle doesn't cost much more than a comspec aluminum receivered Bushamster! (With quality rail and upgrades.) If a company won't give you detailed specs you can be certain they're hiding things. This Spikes is the real deal.

Refreshing to see someone put this much thought into a new AR. The 14.5" barrel/pinned muzzle device is the only balk from me but I know a lot of guys love this setup.

From the looks of it, there's not much to do. I'd just put a Red Dot, Sling, Mags and ammo and have at it. Oh, maybe a bad lever and charging handle.

    It finally arrived!

My dealer also had a bunch of P-Mags.

It's pretty bare so I will spend the next few evenings perusing the forum in search of some educated opinions on lights, optics, slings, a REAL case, etc.

    Thanks for any input/suggestions.

I love Spike's products. But for $1900 price range.. building custom is much better. With better parts too. Or maybe should get the BCM Jack carbine when they were on sale.
    Just saying.. no offense.
What matters is you love it and it looks nice!

    True.

But since I have never built one, I wouldn't know where to start so I don't mind paying.

My skills are in construction and technologies....I guess I could figure it out, but that won't happen until I'm less busy. I bet there are plenty of good threads here to point a guy in the right direction.

My first was a purchased one. Then joined and learnt alot from this forum.
These guys are my mentors. Feel free to ask any questions or directions if you ever decided to build your next one.

Great looking rifle. The spec list looks like all the bases are covered. I love my 14.5 mid-length DD upper, it shoots like a dream and eats anything, even Tula.

Thank you Q! I won't be here without you all. This the forum i grown up on.
Btw back to the topic. So OP, how long did you have to wait for it? And the dealer charged you the same as on the Spike's site?
No freebies or sortever from Spike's? Their rifle case or tshirt maybe? Just curious how Spike's treat their customers. :)

He charged list plus sales tax.

It came with 1 - 30 round P-Mag, two Velcro patches, 2 stickers, an adjustment key for the flip up sights and a removable sling point thing.

The left/right mountable sling point wasn't standard equipment back when I was using the first gen M4s.

Finally got a Pelican 1750. Used my wife's electric carving knife to cut the foam. Worked great......on the foam. Wife's not too thrilled but I cleaned up the knife to factory specs.

Then I also chose the padded Vickers Sling. I added a 2 to 1 convertor...works pretty well.

Also was able to get some 55g .556 FMJ by PPU out of Serbia. http://www.prvipartizan.com/
I haven't shot any yet so I don't have any opinion on it to share. I hope it's good stuff. It was a bit spendy (.76 cents per round). My reloading friend says his reloads cost him half that.
