What mods would be necessary to make a Springfield GI into a carryable weapon? Thanks
Nothing. Thousands of people carry them box stock every day.
The only thing I seriously would consider changing would be the sights. But a little white paint on the front sight makes them a lot better but factory they are not unuseable.
Make sure you shoot it a lot with your carry ammo before carrying it. If it doesn't need an internal polish job then don't sweat it. The trigger pull may or may not be to your likeing, and the sights are obviously pretty tiny by today's standards. If you don't reload then you won't have to worry if the gun caves in case mouths.
All in all, an great pistol for the money IMO, with a classic look that's increasingly rare in today's market.
