You need to be model specific.

IMO remmington makes some really poor quality 1911's.

I take exception to that statement.

I have the 1911 R1 GI and it is one solid $600 entry level 1911.

Maybe it was just my experience with a few remmingtons. Or maybe im such a big wilson fan boy that my judgment is clouded lol.

Um is Kimber an option? I prefer the Springfield on a serious note.

I'd go with the Springer. I bought the R1 as a spec gun. Not sure it's going to appreciate much. Hindsight, I think the SA GI would have been a better choice.

I've shot a couple of the R1's and own a couple Springer's. If I was choosing between the two (a mil-spec and the R1) I'll take the Springer. They just see to work better for me. The R1 is a decent pistol for what it's supposed to be. But to me the Springer comes out of the box a little more reliable.

Can't speak to the SA. However, I do own and R1. It's a very nice basic .45ACP 1911. I don't regret buying it and most likely will keep it. I had the trigger slicked up and night sights installed and it's now my bedside firearm.

However, now that I've had the chance to shoot the new Ruger 1911, I would definitely have bought it over the R1, but it wasn't being produced at the time of my R1 purchase. The Ruger has it all over the R1, and, from all that I've read, I'd probably bet the SA as well.

They import the XD from croatia, or at least the parts and then assemble them here.

Some of their guns parts are manufactured in Brazil, I'm not sure which ones though. And those are assembled and final fitted here in the US.

brazil. the sa are made using actual colt equipment so you buy an sa your getting colt spec gun for a little cheaper. the brazil plant uses really good steel.

    my opinion:
quality wise sa is a scootch under colt but a leap ahead of remington.

I don't have either at present, but I do intend getting a Springfield. I choose it over the Remington, if only because of reputation. Remington is the new kid on the block & unproven. I don't say that in a critical way, everyone must start from zero. It's just that I don't want to be one of the test cases.
