I have never fired either one, but have fondled both. The XDm has "the feel" of a very sweet shooting gun and the XD line of handguns has quite a good reputation. My vote between the two would be the XDm.

Another one (to throw a wrench into the works of your decision) to consider would be the S&W M&P. I just bought one in the .40 cal and it was one very tough decision between the XDm and the M&P. Both are establishing very good reputations and either will make you drool. As I went down the list comparing the two, I had to really search for a reason to go with one over the other. After about 30 tie-breakers, I finally had to go with "made in USA". The M&P is also about $75 cheaper than the XDm.

The way I look at it, with the choices available out there today, it would be hard to go wrong with most any of them.

Good luck and let us know what you end up getting and why.

News this morning is that the Chinese have over taken the American auto industry here in the United States in the sales of new vehicles. Let's all try to support American companies when at all possible.

Furtermore, I have a friend that bought a CZ in .40 S/W because of its price. He got what he paid for, JUNK. Not at all reliable because it randomly jambs.

I hate to break it to you, but the Springfield XD has always been made in Croatia... Even before Springfield bought the rights to brand it for the US market.

If you want to buy American and have a best-in-class for an assault style pistol, then you would want to get a Smith & Wesson M&P. There is a reason that more than 370 LE departments have made M&P's their issued weapon since it was introduced in 2006. I haven't heard of a single department that has made the XD an issued weapon yet. So much for Croatian quality.
