I just got my first AR-15, and I don't know what to put on it, I have $200. Any suggestions?
That depends on what you currently have. We can't recommend something, if we don't know what you have already.
It is a double star, and it is has nothing on it yet.
Here's a picture.
Well bro - you need a rear sight to complete your basic sight sytem - and with your budget, I am afraid you are going to be a bit limited.
Here are some choices.
I prefer folding sights, but you have that fixed front ramp sight, so you are going to have to go for Co-Witness with your optics to make it work.
After that, there are several options I would suggest. But after a rear sight, you need AMMO & MAGS bro.... AMMO & MAGS! Lots of them! Lots & Lots of both....
You gotta buy sights??
Did you take a look at his picture?
strange how it didn't come with rear flip up sights...
After buying a rear iron sight, I would shoot the gun some and figure out what problems you need solved. You don't want to hang a bunch of gadgets that you don't need (not to mention spending the money).
I would recommend you consider the following:
1. A rear sight, folding or fixed.
2. A sling. My choice would be the VCAS from Blue Force Gear - Savannah, GA, but there are alot of good options out there.
3. Some kind of flashlight mounted for low-light shooting. There are all kinds of mounting options, you don't need a quad-rail to mount a light.
I think these suggestions are going to cover about 99% of the issues you are likely to encounter. Before I spent to much money on other cool mods I would probably buy magazines and ammunition.
After that you can start adding trick-ninja mods that you like, as long as they don't take away from your rifles effectiveness. Some of those "neat to have, but not necessary" type modifications might include the following:
1. Hogue or ERGO replacement pistol grip.
2. Railed hand guard.
3. Vertical foregrip. I like the Grip-Pod, but it's expensive.
4. Replacement stock, such as Magpul CTR.
5. Ambidextrous controls like the safety selector and the AMBI-Catch magazine release.
There are also hundreds (if not thousands) of upgrades for the internals, from buffers, to bolts, to triggers, etc etc etc.
Here is a link to another good thread about extras & such. http://www.firearmstalk.com/forums/f20/rookie-looking-some-advice-10735/
Enjoy and have fun.
Here ya go! A mall ninja setup!
Gotta be $200 in there somewhere!
I was not aware that you could mount a sight on top of a scope. This intrigues me. You people are gonna make me go broke. I could understand why (top sight for close range, bottom scope for long range?), but why would anyone need that many flashlights on one gun?
This may sound stupid, but is that using .22 rounds? That barrel looks pretty small for .223 or am I crazy?
I think that is actually a doctored up airsoft rifle - I don't believe that it actually exists in that form in real life...
Cool, what's the white fuzzy thing back by the charging handle?
uhmmm....i believe that was a gun owned by one of the members of ZZ Top.
or...it could be the throw-in air freshener Tribble, that you get with every mall ninja special-ops weapon du jour, such as this one.
i was thinking of getting one, but all the rails are used up, so that would leave no room for the training wheels, or a handle for my caddie to carry it around for me.
To the original poster....get a rear sight for your DS, if it did come as shown. You can pick up a rear sight, folding or fixed for as low as $75 if you shop. stay away from the air-soft stuff, unless you like paying more than once. other than that, as someone already mentioned, pick up some magazines, and extra ammo, and get out and learn how to use it....before turning it into anything that looks like that mall ninja piece.
It's a built-in swiffer for fast and easy cleaning.
That or a troll doll.
That gun is a joke about people who go crazy mounting gadgets on their rifle...at least I hope it is
Here is a real options for ranged optics and a close-quarters sight.
The Trigicon ACOG-ECOS
The Aimpoint Red-Dot with 3XMAG that swivels in behind it. Run just the Comp Red-Dot for CQ, and swing the 3XMAG into place for ranged attack.
