Guys I need a little advice, I am planning to buy a military rifle, now it's a long story but to cut to the chase I live in France and I have to plan ahead and apply to the local Prefecture (Local Goverment Office for the department one resides) for a Catagory 1 authority.

Now it's not a problem because I am a member of a club and the shooting Federation but it's a one shot deal, it's just a ball ache.

I am applying for a 308 rifle and I quite fancy a CETME as I had a G3 in the UK some years ago before we had to hand them over, and I can't get one here. I travel to the US on business from time to time and I have it mind to obtain one in the US with spare magazines and export it back home (legally of course) having already ahead of time got the approval and documentation from the Prefecture and the Dounes (Customs). My question is quite simple the last time I was there there where quite a few about in good shape, what is the position now and approximate cost.

On the CETME, your best bet is to look for a "Black Widow", it's basically a Cetme with a Black set of Furnature, better than Average Action and costs a bit more than the regular CETME, but well worth it!


Now the bad news! As Far as CETME's go, Shotgun New,s SOG, Centruty arms and AIM surplus, all used to carry them and they were all about 450-500 on the Regular CETME, and maybe another 50-75$ on the Black Widow, I just looked at a shotgun news and not a CETME IN Site? Your best bet will be to have a look at some of the Auction sites that carry long guns and hope for the best!


If you need any Links to the auction sites, write back and we will see if we can help! I don't envy you the paperwork and Bull-S--T of the import to France, but as you said, it will be more possible than england! Good luck with all that mess!

Thanks Ron, my last G3 has likely ended up as a sewer grid in London, but not again....If i can get the paperwork sorted out and I don't get a job out there before, I hope to get to the Tulsa Gunshow in April I think, Oh how I miss that show..............

I'm sorry to hear about your G-3! I've owned a few H & K 91's and yes, did get a chance to fire a G-3 once oversea's in Africa, but thats been amny moons ago! England and Most of the UK has Gun Laws I just could not Live under! Hell, Northern US is bad enough! I moved away for those states for that reason as well!

I wish you luck in your search, If you can, The "Black Widow" model of CETME is about the best I've seen? It had Plastic Black Furnature, a decent set of sites and I believe a flash hider? I don't recall the details, but they were a lot better condition and function than a lot of the older CETME with the older wood stock that CENTURY sold for the longest time! YUP< in the end, if you can get it, Do it now, as it's not going to get any easier to find or any cheaper, thats for dam sure!

You need to check out a web site, www.gunbroker.com
There were CETME's listed there for auction with prices starting at around $500. You might consider buiding your own - most of the CETME's out there are parts guns anyway.

Thanks I'll look it up, it is just a long winded process over here. With a Cat. 1 weapon (semi-automatic military rifle, and military calibre) I will have to buy it and arrange to lodge it with a dealer in the US, because I need the serial number to process the paperwork in advance of possession.

I just recently bought a FA 91 which is what most people call a G3 clone at a local gunshop, and this is in a small Maine town and I also know of aother for sale at another gunshop, so I am sure wherever you happen to be in the U.S. you should be able to find one at a gunstore. the problem that may arise depends on which state you visit as some require a waiting period. As for price I only paid $500.

Some guys at the PD have a gun shop and I was thinking of asking them to hold it (whatever it might be) until I get the paperwork sorted out.....

it is basicaly a Century arms build useing a Federal arms receiver left over from when century took over the company, it has an aluminum receiver with a built in weaver type scope mount and a pinned barrel. I believe the current cenury cetme's have a stamped receiver and pressed barrel, so most likely any cetme you purchase in the U.S. will be built on a century receiver, and they are pretty cheap, only $500 to $700. any reason you cant just hop down to Spain and get one right from the source? it would most likelky be much better quality than the one's here in the U.S.

Plenty of them about like most guns but not legally, and Spanish gun laws are tight, I am not likely to find one in France. I might have to look at other options I prefer the rifle to be standard issue if at all possible. I had a H&K G3 in semi-auto a few years ago but lost it to the UK gunlaws, it's likely a sewer grid somewhere now....thanks anyway.........

Springfield armory makes a model called SAR 8, Springfield contracted a company in Greece called Helinic Arms to build the SAR 8 for them and from what I have read Hellenic actualy uses H&K tooling and are under H&K supervision, the average cost looks to be about $2,000. this shuold be a very high qaulity firearm.

I looks like this was posted awhile ago and I hope you were able to get your Cetme. I seems that now you are able to find them easily at the local gun shop. I purchased mine about 2 yrs ago and love shooting it.
