Organizing some ammo, ran across a box that I would put “leftover” rounds into when a mag was full, just to have some examples of rounds carried.

These were some of the highlights:

    Winchester white box 115gr HP.
Winchester 147gr HP (not certain what marketed load)
    Winchester 127gr +P Ranger
    Winchester Black Talon 147 gr
    Hornady Custom XTP 115 gr
    Hornady American Gunner XTP 115gr
Hornady TAP FPD, 124 gr +P
    Hornady Critical Defense 124gr
    CorBon 115gr HP
    Sig V-Crown 124gr HP
    Federal HydraShok, 124gr
    MagSafe 80gr safety slug
    Ruger ARX 80gr polymer bullet

You certainly seem to like variety!

Some of those are from around 1991-93. Then yes, I experimented with several loads. We used to shoot them into wet phone books before ballistic gel became more available.

Some were bought just out of curiosity.

So, I have to ask, what kind do you normally carry?

Sometimes it depends on availability. But the regulars are, Federal HST, Speer Gold Dot or Hornady Critical Duty.

Why? They have more test data indicating an ability to get consistent expansion and adequate penetration. The data is also correlated with LE use. They have functioned well in my carry handguns, and have shown very good accuracy. I’ve used Winchester Rangers as well, but have experienced a few duds, where multiple primer strikes didn’t set them off. (Probably a bad batch/lot, but currently out of the rotation.)

Hornady XTP loads will do in a pinch, and have always proven to be accurate and reliable, but even Hornady has evolved toward a better bullet in their critical Duty/Critical Defense lines.

Made a short range trip today. Fired off some of the leftovers. Only ones that have any trouble were the old CorBon rounds. The hollow point cavity is so large it was catching on the feed ramp of my P07. First rounds in over 2500 that gave a feed problem.
