Does anyone know what the current status of the open carry law is? Can anyone open carry now or is it still tied up in court?

It is no longer tied up in court. If you are legal to own it, you can OC it. However, you may have noticed a flurry of new "no firearms allowed" signs at your local stores; it has been rumored that some law enforcement agencies have even distributed "sample" signs.

Please use some discretion when doing so to avoid any negative publicity. Remember that some ninny's are frightened by the presence of a firearm.

I find that the only time I really utilize OC is when I fuel my car. I buy ethanol-free, which seems to only be sold in ghettoish areas of town. Instead of my pistol sitting on my seat in the car, it is in the holster clipped to my pants pocket (I pay at the pump).

Thank you. That is why I will not spend my money at a business that has a "no weapons" sign hanging on the door.

That is a good attitude in theory, but in the nearest city/town, almost all retail establishments and restaurants are posting that sign. I don't recall seeing one at the Walmart, but I am not 100%.

I keep a nanovault cabled to my car seat for such unfortunate situations. I generally keep my pistol on the seat when driving and in the box when not driving. The in-between can be unsettling at some times, I must admit.

For sure! Last time I checked there had been NO reports of “blood on Main Street,” OC weapons scaring people on the square, unpleasant interfaces with LE or any of the other nonsense predicted by the Honorable sheriff of Hinds County (city of Jackson.) I’ve only seen one person OC…and that was at a local farmers’ market. He had a .380 holstered on his belt. Nice guy! Bought some tomatoes.

I’m not surprised. I expected no less of the citizens of Mississippi.
