Ruger Service Six... in the beloved .357 Magnum caliber..
I want fuller grips to give it a more modern appearance and also for me the current grips are way too small.

I am not much of a Revolver dude.. thouhg I love them, they are basically fun guns for me..
So my expertise is quite limited..
Anyone have any recommendation for modern grips?
    (or maybe a holster too)

I'm sure Pachmyr & Hogue make grips for it. You could also try ebay & see what comes up.

Ruger made a set of larger grips for them too, like a little like the old Roper grips. They may have some laying around. I have a set of them on a Security Six, I kind of like the small ones better, but not sure enough to part with these yet.
If I could post a pic I would. But alas.
    I second the ebay.

Saw some good looking larger Service Six Grips on eBay you might check there. Decent price also.

So do all service six aftermarket grips fit all years of service sixes?

It would be easy to start collecting Security & Service-sixes.

I am running a Hogue Monogrip on my Securty Six. I take a size large glove if that helps.

    Yes it does.
I take a size "L" with the Mechanix Tacgloves and a size XL with the WileyXs (but they fall small for their size I think)

I can't answer the question about all Service Sixes and the grips. But I am sure you can research it or call Ruger or a grip company that makes them. Good luck on your search!
Very nice Ruger Revolver by the way!

I may have to do that. There is a big time zone difference where I am though to the US and I am just itching to buy something this weekend :D

I'm thinking the 150 series grips are different than the later ones. 83 model, I'm pretty sure most of what you're seeing will fit.
Check out Sack's Grips, he makes lovely stag grips for lots of things including Sec Sixes, I bet his site will tell you.

I wonder if VZ makes grips for that frame?

I put rubber grips on all my pistols bigger than 32 sw long. Made a big difference for me. Nice revolver you have. :)

For me the Hogue Monogrip is one of the best grip designs out there and they make revolvers much more shootable than factory grips.

Don't know that I'd call them "modern," but I've always been a fan of stag grips for a classic-style revolver. Won't do much to suck up the recoil "slap" a decent revolver can inflict, but they can transform the look into something far beyond the average, typical example of a given make/model of revolver.

If wanting a custom shape, such as for much larger hands or desire for a different palm swell, or whatever, one can always find a custom maker and have a set made to spec.

Some examples, in this case for the Ruger Security Six ...

I am primarily tying to get away from the odd tiny grips look which really turns me off... makes me think of 1930 38 SPCs
That and they are simple too small.
So prettier replacement grips wont do it for me.

They have to be beefier.... so just seeing the pic of the grip itself w/o it being on the revolver wont help me as I fear they will simply be prettier grips in the same size and shape.
(and what does the round grip vs square grip mean as a stock fit on this model?)

Sure the stock grips aid in conceal carry but IMO a medium frame .357 Magnum Revolver is not the right tool for conceal carry anyway.

I am hoping to set it up as trailgun.
