Hi crew, So after some mental debate and doing research I decided on the 1911 platform. Much of it has to do with the fact that I know if I have a problem with parts, function, upgrades, tricks or tips I can lay them on the old skoolers here and most likely will get an answer or get directed appropriately. I have owned only two other .45 caliber handguns in the past (Glock 30 and Glock 21) and traded or sold them to pick up other weapons over the years. Liked the idea of the .45 but never really enjoyed shooting them. (I don't have a problem with Glock inherently). Picked up a Kimber Custom II full-size for around 750.xx after handling a good portion of what the metro area here has to offer. I think I am in love lol! With the exception of one FTF from the first magazine it has outshot me for over 400 rounds. With my range only 5 minutes away it is nice to just drop by and get some gunning in after work. With so many options, finishes, ambi-safeties, etc. I actually read the stickied post here and it sort of made up my mind. My buddy was on leave from Iraq and staying with me so I got some bro time plus an experienced eye/voice of reason to assist in the transaction. My HK's, glocks, n my Kahr (my carry piece) seem to feel strange in my hand now... and all I want is more .45 ammo and to feel that trigger break- is that so wrong? I am sure it is the first of many but how many of you remember your first?
Good for you! A nice sa trigger is something I fell in love with. The 1911 platform is awesome. The 45 is a real meat-eater. You made a good decision.
Congrats and welcome to the awesome world of Mr. J.M. Browning's mighty .45 caliber automatic pistol!
I believe my love for this pistol is growing daily. Just picked up some VZ grips - the Aliens in tigerstripe from a member of 1911forum , a cute stainless matchgrade bushing, and a beautiful hand-tooled holster in a rich brown made here in Oregon just to customize a touch. Will take a swift pic this weekend. The problem is now I want another! Thinking used, something to run in the truck. Any suggestions? there is a shop here that has some decent looking Ithacas but the cats here want about 800+ - would I be paying for nostalgia or are they worth that? seems at that rate I should dive into something new but You guys are like drug dealers here... Try it - you'll like it! lol! (helpful, well-advised and humorous drug dealers of course)
Welcome to the 1911/45 ACP fraternity! Seriously, your life has changed! The 1911 pattern pistol needs no cheerleader. You said it best, "Try it - you'll like it!" That's all it takes. Beware, the 1911 is an addiction! And in my case, the Colt 1911 addiction is contagious. You WILL own more, but none will be as remarkable or memorable as the first. Want a truck gun? Try this; 1911 45 ACP Handgun - Rock Island - $379.99 1911 45 ACP Tactical Handgun - Rock Island - $419.99
First, what ammo is that you have in the pic, any good? Second, is the RI Tactical for 420 better than the Taurus PT1911 from 520?
Ahh...Kimber... Now you've done it. Before long you'll be selling or trading off the rest off the rest of your collection for more 1911's.
LOL - Welcome out of the cave and into the Light. Once you have one, there is no way to stop them from growing and populating your safe. You have got your hands on one hell of a good piece there. Taken care of, it will take care of you and yours for many years to come. Now, let's see some range targets.
In my very limited knowledge assessment, I would Go with the RIA Tactical over the Taurus, I have a RIA and enjoy it, For the Money don't think you can go wrong. JMHO
Thanks! She's been my security blanket for about 8 yrs now. She's on her 2nd set of Wolf springs and I treated her to the Wilson mag's about 6 months ago... She...treated...Damn, I sound like I'm dating this gun. Naw, I married her the day I brought her home.
This may save you some money. 1911 45 ACP Handgun Rock Island $379.99 1911 45 ACP Handgun Rock Island Part #AC-RI1911
