    it was a baby no more than 6" long.

    I can see that picture. It is a copperhead which are rare in Northerv Va.

    We had some parents saying they seen a big snake at least 5' long around the school. Then this sucker showed up.

    I will agree that it was a copperhead.

    AFAIK, 5 foot is a big specimen for copperheads.
