I'm interested in purchasing a S & M model 65. The asking price is $525. It is in very good shape, really almost Like new. What would be a good price for me to offer? Any ideas?

    Depends on several things.

    Barrel length: Is it a 3", if so $525 is a good price. 4" I'd say $450, anything over 4" or less than 3" I wouldn't go over $400 and I'd hope for $350.

Condition: Does it look really good or is it really good? Any end shake? How's the lock up? Checked the timing? Forcing cone look good? Does it come with the original box, paperwork, and wooden grips?

Lately 3" model 65's have been going pretty high when in great condition, think $550-$600. Still every now and then someone runs up on one for less than $400. Someone at the S&W forum found a 3" model 65 LS for $350.

The 4" has a square butt and is a nice service gun. Many were issued to Police Departments and prison bureaus (Texas Department of Corrections/ TDCJ used to issue them.

I have a 3" round butt and love it. Put the S&W DAO hammer in it and it is pretty much snag proof.

Essentially a fixed sight, heavy barrel M-66. Same grips, same speed loaders.

I believe 3 and 4" were the only varients made.

I went ahead and purchased this gun. I did buy Hogue wooden Mono grips for it, and I completly love it. I had had a model 686 4" and just didn't care for it. This 65 is really sweet though. I put a pic of it on here if you'd like to see it. Thanks for the help!
