Now that my AK is pretty much where I want it, I've been looking for a new project gun. I found a good deal on an SKS but it has an attached magazine. Is that removable to accommodate higher capacity magazines?

Yes. You can get a Tapco 20 round removeable mag. There is also a 20 round fixed mag available. I think it is a surplus item. Chinese if I remember corectly.

Yes there are higher capacity detachable mags out there but the most reliable mags seem to be the military 10 and 20 round mags that are fixed. The 20 rounders to be found are usually Chinese.

I have heard that the fixed mags are fast to load with stripper clips.

That are rather quick to load with the stripper s , but if you can get the extended mags to work great in your sks, then why not do it . They look alot cooler as well. If have 30 & 40 rounders for mine and haven't had any issues with mine at all.

Removal of the fixed mag requires removal o the trigger group. Depress the button behind the trigger guard at it should pop up and rock out of position.

One out, the fixed mag will lift out. Simply reinstall the trigger group and your ready for use with detachable magazines.

I've found the 25 and 30 rounders to be the most reliable. My 40 rounder does have the occasional FTF.

    Good Luck

The SKS will work the best with the fixed mag and stripper clips.
