Romanian M59/66A for $279.00 no guarantee if issued or not but sounds like a good deal. I've been steering toward 5.56 purely based on ammo costs but 7.62 delta not that much for what you get. While these are per AK, they were supposedly built a tad better, tighter tolerances etc...accuracy? Looking for thoughts and feedback.

I have a russian SKS. I love it. I like my AR better. But I got the SKS first. I look it it this way. If you are wanting to buy a battle proven platform in semiauto I don't know of anything else that is available for even close to that price.

Great gun. Cabelas caled me (long after it was cleaned, sighted, and fired several times) to say that some had been sold partially de-milled. Google it for more info. I told the lady that mine shoots great. Not bringing it back for " inspection".

I agree with the above, for $279 the SKS is a good semiauto that uses a common cheap round that gives acceptable accuracy and power. I've been happy with my Yugo 59/66 even though its barrel is not chrome-lined.

Try to look at a couple examples if they'll open a few boxes. If you prefer 5.56 in that price range also look at the Saiga.

Quentin, I have been looking at Saiga's SU-16CA for the 5.56. Also the mini 14. Lots of people raving about the AR platform, just not that into it and it's not cheap. I am in CA so my choices are somewhat limited. I like the Saiga format; foldable and compact but am concerned about the platform for longer term or heavy duty use. Overkill? Maybe, maybe not. Even those Saiga's have jumped up in cost. As I have researched to help me narrow down, many have steered me clear of the mini 14 and some have suggested the SKS. So searching for ammo this am for my 92S I see this SKS for what appears to be a pretty good deal. Also considering Saiga Sub2000 in beretta 9 as I can use clips from the 92S. Maybe I'll trade my 336c in but I do like the lever guns but damn, 30/30 ammo is expensive.

Have I lost my mind a bit? Aren't the SU16 and the Sub2000 both carbines from KelTec, not Saiga? At any rate, 7.62 can be had for really good prices per round and I am more confident my sks would take a decent sized target down I have given up the search for the 5.56 rifles I had looked at. For the money an sks can be had for, they are a great platform.

Nope, that was my mind missing on that one. I've been around on this so many times my head is not right! I'm liking the price on the SKS and other than no clips, likely meet my criteria.

I love the one I got. There is some stuff you can switch around on them too. You just have to stay compliant with the 992r law.
The pic sucks but I put a left hand thumbhole stock on it, detachable clip, I have a dust cover with a scope mount, and I put a recoil buffer spring in it. Im still working on the optics for it.

Be very careful. Some of the SKS's sold by Cabela's had a hole drilled in the side of the barrel on the left side of the chamber. This may or may not have shown to be a problem if fired with steel cased ammo. It is very dangerous in the long term. I would absolutely recommend you take it back for an inspection.

Thanks. I saw the hole and the guys hand when i Googled the issue. No hole in mine and the acuracy is far better than my AK. Really nice gun, certainly for the money!
