My father in law gave me this sks and I know nothing about them.
It has a folding stock and a bayonet on it and looks to be 30 round magazines for it. any help is greatly appreciated, haven't decided if I am going to keep it or not.

    here are some pics

Is that a regular AK mag laying along side? Does it function in the gun? If so, it is likely a Chinese SKS-D or M. They were the only ones made for AK mags. Highly desirable. Non-standard, US made stock detracts from collector value, but probably worth $500+ depending on the locale.

Is it just me, or does it resemble the one mentioned in reply #7 there, a pre-ban conversion by Midwest Ordinance. The stock and pistol grip look exactly alike; check out the markings. Does it say "Midwest ordinance" on the bottom just toward the muzzle from the magazine?

Pre ban not sure of the year and value is 350-600 depends on how bad someone wants it. With how crazy gun prices have been and looking at the shape of the gun I would ask around 700. If it were me I wouldn't sell it they are just 2 rare. But if you really want you could donate it to.… me.

Looks like an after market stock. Had one just like it. Didn't like it. Luckily I saved all wood and restored it.

Excellent Source for SKS at http://www.yooperj.com/ and http://forums.gunboards.com/archive/index.php/f-8-p-16.html

You kinda follow the Armory (or manufacturing plant) identifier and start from there, Some have dates for a serial, some don't.
It's too bad, I guess there are few records kept in those commie countries.

You included a picture of your markings on one side. However, I cannot see the detail very good.

Perhaps when you have time and equipment, a couple pics in high resolution, cropped to the essential parts and posted on a pic site (like photobucket) would allow us to see it better.

Feel free to put 'tape' over the serial number(s) to obscure it.

This may be a MILLION DOLLAR gun, but most probably not.

I'd say north of 500$. It's got the cruciform bayo, but takes

AK mags. Standard mag, beat-to-crap, regular bayo, non-matching

serial SKSs are going for 350$ and up, at this point in time.
