I saw a vendor asking $379 for them at a gun show last weekend. What is the value of your pistol?

That's an SKS? Looks like something else to me.

Oh ok. I've got a smith and wesson 5906 9mm. Not sure on the value.

I think you are losing a couple hundred bucks on the trade. Will he make up the difference in cash or ammunition?

    That's a nice stainless S&W 59 .

Not sure what the 'sks' is. I love the markings, but too many things look much different,

From what I see, there is a magazine release on the bottom? Not the usual swing out magazine.

I would worry about the availability of parts / magazines and such.

If you want an SKS, get one. AND KEEP THE 5906!

    That is NOT an SKS!!!!!!

It appears to be a Egyptian Rashid. Is it cal 7.62x39? It's a Rashid. If it's
8mm mauser it's a Hakim. IIRC, they are both loosely derived from the
    Swedish Lundgren----which was 6.5x55.

Magazine is missing, but they are actually worth a bit more than a SKS.
Not a really common rifle. I've seen north of $600 asked for them.

eta: Just noticed on the bottom picture. Upside down, "Made in U.A.R."

Yep, that's an Egyptian Rashid. Not sure on mags if he doesn't have one for it.

They are a bit more are than the SKS. About $600 is what folks ask for them. Actually see that a replacement mag runs about $45.

The S&W 5906 is running a between $325-450 depending on condition. The cheaper ones were police trade-ins with significant holster wear.

It is 7.62x39. Also have a guy trying to trade me a smith and wesson shield 9mm with less then a 100 rounds through it.

Milsurp is milsurp, but S&W is S&W.

Case in point, I have a S&W sitting in my pocket

right now, and my favorite CC is a S&W. The same can't be

    said of milsurp rifles.

OTOH, I saw a rather shabby SKS for sale, the other day, for

500$. (Glad I got mine when I did) So they are going up in value,

as folks realize what a POS the average AKM is, by comparison.

End of the day, if you are a collector of rarer milsurps, or deal

with enough folks you can move the Rashid eventually, go for it.

On a personal note, I went through hell finding my SS S&Ws, and

would never part with them. But you are trading apples and oranges

here, which could be lucrative, or could cost you big time, if you

aren't acutely aware of market values.

My advice would be to be sure the Rashid has all matching serials,

if you are going to trade for it. Best of luck.
