    Hello all!
Well, I was going to sell this SKS, and when I pulled it out to give it going over before sale, I found THIS...

It goes all the way through. Now, I have something I need to admit. When I got this rifle, I was very excited. I didn't go over it as well as I should have. The guy met me in a parking lot at night (perfectly legal here in UT, but now I know why he chose to meet after dark). I was taken advantage here, but it happens.

So, I can't find this part. I think that replacing it would be beyond the scope of reasonable repair. Question is, is the rifle still serviceable or is it just junk?

Please help. Please tell me it's fine lol!

    Thanks gents!

I don't have an SKS and I can't tell from the pic, but is it just the sight that is cracked, or something major like the barrel or the receiver?

If it's just the sight, it is replaceable. It doesn't necessarily have to be the exact same sight. I've heard of aftermarket peep sights being used on an SKS before.

If you look around, you should be able to find an original sight somewhere.

It's the piece that holds the sight and houses the piston/operating rod. Containing the rod is its primary function.

The more I look at it the more I think that this rifle is a total loss...

Unless that part is permanently attached to the barrel, it's not a total loss. Even if it is, it's a loss of the barrel, not the rest of the rifle.

What kind of SKS is it? Russian, Yugo, Chinese, ect?

Here's a part for a Yugo SKS. It's called the rear sight base. Not sure if it will work on yours since I don't know what yours is, or much about SKSs.

    https://www.buymilsurp.com/rear-sight-base-stripped-sks-yugo-5966-rifle-p-188.html

Now if you still think it's a complete loss, I'll give you $100 for it. ;) :p

How could you possibly think to take advantage of this poor guys situation?

I tell ya, things like this just make me sick. It's awful.

    I'll give you 125$...:D

Seriously, I bought a couple of SKSs in good shape a year ago, now they have nearly

tripled in value. I doubt this will set you back much. Word is getting out on these solid

performers, as the well dries up.

Unless there's something I'm not seeing, that's a nice unit, with the rarer cruciform

bayo. If all the serials match, you should be beating folks away from it with a club.

A buddy of mine got one like that a while back, for 500$, unfired, and only because he

got to it first. I'll buy it off him any day he wants to sell.

Thank you sir! It's a Norinco rifle, but that is the part. I wonder if it would be compatible with that Yugo part... Unfortunately they are out of stock... I'll just keep looking around. I appreciate your help, VERY much!

Even if I can't (in good faith) sell the rifle, I won't worry so much about running a couple of rounds through

I dont know if you can replace that easily. I looked at mine to check and that holds the switch that holds the hand guard and piston in. I could see the pressure from shooting it make it split or snap and the piston might come back at ya. It may be fine but be careful when you shoot it.
