I don't get to the range as much as I **** these days. I usually work seven days a week so I have to go on either holidays or if I take a vacation day. Today's the latter. I often prefer to take a handgun/rifle combination. so I took a Norinco SKS in 7.62X39 and a Stoeger 8040 Cougar .40 (Turkish Beretta Cougar clone) handgun.
I set my cardboard box at just shy of 75 yards for the Simonov. From a standing position I put 60 rounds of Tula 22gr. 7.52X39 into the box from a standing position with a couple of misses. I was shooting a little to the right but I forgot my sight adjustment tool.
I have owned the Cougar for about two years, but have had it to the range only three times and I am still getting used to it. I like the Cougar, even if DA/SA guns are not my favorite system ( I prefer SA and Striker fired guns). I set up a box at 25 feet or so and shot OK. I do pretty well in S/A mode, but the high recoil makes the transition from D/A to S/A a little awkward. This is going to take more practice to master. The ammo I was using was Academy Sports Monarch FMJ. Since the box was marked "Made and Serbia" and marked PPU I assume its made by Privi Partizan. It worked well and I am not surprised as I always liked their 7.52X25 stuff in my CZ-52.
I left a little early because it and 95 degrees and humid . Typical Arkansas mid-September weather. An enjoyable afternoon!
