This was my first gun I carried with my department and still own it . I took it out to the range a couple weeks ago to shoot it, it worked flawlessly . I would gladly carry it on duty in a second! :)

You can never go wrong with a Sig P228/229. I love the way it shoots, handles, carries, etc. I liked it so much I picked up a Sig P226R as well, not to mention the P-220, 230, 232, and the 239. Now I am just waiting for the P-224. :D

It's a shame they discontinued the 228. They're still used by special units and govt agencies, because they are that good. It's certainly been dependable compact carrying for me for 25 years.

What's the difference between a 228 and 229? I don't see it in the spec sheets...

The P-228 is 9mm only and has a formed metal slide with a welded barrel bashing and a pinned in rear action.

The P-229 has a machines steel one piece slide made to accommodate the stress of the .40. Then it was rebarreled for the 9mm, with the .357 Sig following.

The P-229 feels top heavy due to it's one piece stainless steel design. The P-228 was release in limited batches and are pricey. The 228 was more available in Europe the it was here in the states.

I thought the 229 couldn't get better but it could, it's called the 228.

If I remember correctly Sig is supposed to be bring the P228 back. They are going to be releasing it as an updated version called the M-11A1. There are even a couple for sale on GunsofAmerica.com or GunBroker.com average price was about $500.

I just found a P228R at my LGS. It comes with two 13rd magazines. Their asking $850, I thought it seemed like a good deal.

I ended up buying the P228R. Looking forward to picking it up and taking it to the range. Someday I would like to get the original P228.

Thank you. I'm a newbie but I really love the way this gun feels. Light and balanced.

M11 is coming out, which is the military P228.

But I have to say I love my P229. I gets better each time I shoot it. Here's 1 magazine, 15 rounds at 15 yards aiming for the head (obviously).

The P229 is definitely on my short list! That list is growing quick though. It seems like a great gun.
