I was just noticing....new 938, I loaded up the mag w/6 rounds, (Hornady Critical Defense), inserted mag, racked slide. Pressed mag release, and the mag only came back out about 1/4". Pulled on mag, and a round stripped off the mag, and came tumbling out magwell. There was a round chambered, and this gun has been shot a little, during which it performed great. BUT, for a CC gun, I think a clean unload should be mandatory.
This condition was repeatable 100% of the 10 or so times I tried it, and it did the same thing with WW Federal ball ammo, but not quite as bad. (Ammo stayed in mag better, but mag still did not drop free.)

Anyone else have this problem?

It sounds as the round after said chambered round is being pushed forward and protruding out of the mag. Could be a weak mag spring. Have you tried a different mag?

I agree with the 1st part. Weak mag spring.....it's the original factory, basically brand new. It is VERY strong. Very hard to load by hand. It's also the only one I have. Gun came with 1 mag, and additional ones are hard to come by right now. So, no, I have not been able to try another mag.

I did notice, the feed lips tend to hold the top round at an upwards angle compared to the other rounds below it. It seems to tend to want to "squish" the top round foreward and out. But like I said, it's a brand new mag....I wonder if it could be defective?

It's not a weak spring then, it does sound like your mag could be defective. Contact Sig and they will take care of you

So I took the gun to the gun shop, and he agreed that it's a mag issue. Upon further research, it's a known issue. Sig apparently made some changes to the 238 mags to improve feeding, and carried the changes to the 938, and this is the result. The GS owner said he'd call Sig, and when he did, they said they'd send 2 new mags, and a new mag spring. So that's col, but I think I'm going to have to live with the problem.

Additional issue: Taking this mag apart is horrible! Almost impossible to do, unless you have 4 hands, or I'm missing something. Very hard to get the spring compressed and captured in the right position, and the follower only just barely gets past the feed lips, and even then some force is needed. Once you get it out, you MUST put it back the correct way, or it turns into a 5 shot mag! Just looking at the spring, you'd assume it goes in a certain way. You'd be wrong, it goes the other way. I'd mark the spring, or better yet, NEVER take the mag apart, unless forced to. The directions in the manual are totally useless.
