I'd like to add a question to this related thread.
What kind of sling for a home defense shotty? My old Mossy has a new stock that came with an attachment point for a sling. It happened to be the same kind as on a stock i removed from my SKS. The sling that came with the SKS won't fit the new SKS stock (tapco).

The former SKS sling will fit the nub on the new shotgun stock nicely, but i don't want a semi-loose loop of sling around the shell tube on the shotty. How should the front end get slung? Is there some nifty attachment i haven't yet found to ensure free operation of the pump mechanism on ole Mossy?

No, i don't plan on trooping around the woods with the short barrel on the Mossy, but i don't have another use for the sling or the nub.

OK, so it seems that a shotgun sling should be removable & its use or non-use should be determined by relevant circumstance.

I'll see about rigging the sling for quick removal/reinstallation.

I find myself wondering if anyone sells a retractable sling, kinda like a seatbelt with the base at one attachment point & a quick-connect device on the end of the belt to attach to the other attachment point. The base with spool of sling/belt could be mounted on the side or bottom of the buttstock. I wonder if anyone's been bored enough to build that?
