A friend and I are doing a roadtrip in california and nevada.
Anyone who can tell me if there exist places where we can "drop in" and try out different guns/rifles?

One more question; is it possible to use .38 special bullets in a Blackhawk .357?

Are you going to be in Las Vegas or another part of Nevada?

The only one I've been to is American Shooters. It's ok, but it can be busy at times. They have plenty of guns available all the way up to full auto. I mainly shoot out in the desert.

If you're staying in a casino, look in the coupon books for a discount for your range session at The Gun Store.

I don't know about the ranges near Reno, but there are at least two in the Sacramento area that rent firearms. They are; the Gun Room in Elk Grove and the Cordova Shooting Center in Rancho Cordova.

Usually no reservations, just walk in, take a look at the guns and pick one or two or three.....

Just make sure you have valid identification with you. You must be over 21 years old to rent the pistols.

You may have to wait on a lane if you're there on a weekend. Also, the casino security departments usually have the rifle range booked all day mondays at American Shooters. You'll probably have to rent eye and ear protection. I would suggest you use both ear plugs and ear muffs as it gets very loud in the lanes. They will also make you buy their (overpriced) ammo and targets. If you have no firearm experience they may want you to pay for a training course. They don't like having their target holders shot up.

Oh, and bring money....

......and yes you can shoot .38 specials in a .357 Blackhawk.
