I have the proper license to open a range but was wondering what to put behind the targets like a back stop to stop the larger shells like .308 , etc any suggestions

Smith, I put the "N" in range in the title of the thread for you. We wouldn't want people to think you were in a shooting "rage" now would we? ;)

you have to use a large number of sand bags. Best backdrop is a large dirt berm.

Are you doing this for earn a profit (IE run a business)?

If so you need to look at your entire set up. I hope you don't have any houses or HOA's in the area.

First thing you need to do if opening a range as a business if get the NRA Shooting Range Source Book. This wil be a huge help for you it gives you information on how to build operate and be successful at running a Range.

get a bunch of old tires and pack them with dirt as you stack them up. tire stores have to pay for disposal so you might work a deal to haul them off.

moonpie, that will work as long as the tires are not the steel radial kind. Ricochets galore.
