A lone shooter wounded a LEO and has been arrested. No others have been reported injured. The shooter is reported to have had a rifle.

FBI Terrorism Task Force is on the scene.

It is now being reported that two people have been transported to the hospital.

Outstanding. Another Black Eye for the Lawful Gun Owners of America.

Any indication what this whack job had in mind?

    Was it personal?

Just one officer & one other person hurt?

Any indication of the resume of the gunman ( Unemployed? Old? Young? Student? Anti-Semitic? )

Not cool. Hopefully the two injured people pull through the gunman has an accident on the way to his cell.

Why can't the crazy people use baseball bats; it would probably be more therapeutic for them.

I hope the injured people come out OK.

Apparently an elderly white supremest, James W Von Brunn. He has an anti-semitic web site. Was a PT boat captain in WWII and has a Federal prison record.

How do you serve 6 years in Federal Prison and get a gun in Washington, D.C.??

Fits the profile to a "T" I am afraid. That is where I was going with my earlier question. My immediate thought was a white supremacist that had recently lost his last remaining loved one ( a tie to the "normal" world ) or had lost his job and was looking to "make a statement".

Anything happen, of significance, on this day in History? Yeah, I probably should know, but I don't....

If not, it will be interesting to see what his "trigger" was to go off today of all days. Obviously this was a targeted group - but what was the cause that led to today??

I hate to see this - especially in DC, it's only going to fuel the Left...

I think you mentioned earlier he had a rifle. Probably a person to person out of state sale and smuggle.

Even though none of this should splash on responsible gun owners, we will still be blamed....

Where is this Department of Homeland Security in these kinds fo issues?? Aren't we funding, and didn't we get railroaded into being force fed, that piece of crap Patriot Act for just these types of people??

    A convicted Felon? Check.
    White Supremest? Check.
Runs a Website All About Hate? Check.

I would say he fit the bill of what that department was SUPPOSED to be looking into.....

Sweet. We finally get to share some of the blame with the Brainiacs over there at MENSA.

With a name like James W Von Brunn I expect they will find a black polo sweater and a white cat at his house also.....

What we won't hear is how he got the rifle illegally. As JD stated, he should have been eye balled by those that make the laws to protect us from ourselves. Here's a guy illegally possessing a fire arm in DC and he commits a crime with the ill gotten rifle while a guy in an open carry state gets arrested for carrying on his own property because a neighbor did not like it. Something is wrong with the whole picture.

I wish the victims and their families well and I wish the lunatic death prior to prison where he will interact with other like minded persons.

MSN is reporting that the guard died. RIP "Mr. Stephen Tyrone Jones, a six-year veteran of the museum"

MSN reports "A law enforcement source said the gunman was shot in the face, and authorities say he is in critical condition." No RIP for you, hater.

Note* CNN says the killer is from Maryland (presumably, right across the river). There are a couple of people in Maryland who are on another forum i frequent. They have commented that they cannot buy magazines that hold more than 10 rounds for rifles they are building up, doesn't seem like that law helped in this case.

Why can't people who have a death wish just off themselves without taking others with them?

I almost equate this to suicide bombers...why in the *#$& do you blow yourself and countless other people up just because you're mad at someone about something?!?! Seriously?!?! Does that even make the tiniest bit of sense!?!?!

And then to think that you'll get rewarded for it....

RIP Mr. Jones, your service was not in vain.

Amen on that, and to the cop that shot him in the face, the first ten rounds are on us. Hopefully you saved us all the expense and insanity of a trial that would be pointless.

We don't know that to be the case. Perhaps he shot ten times, but only hit two people and was changing mags? Maybe he had a boltgun? Still to many questions, and I haven't seen a report on the weapon that was used itself yet - please don't let it be a black rifle....:(

I'm a maryland resident. I don't remember if its 10 or 12 or what but yeah there is a limit even for a .22. But its only a limit on PURCHASE not ownership. So you can buy them at PA gun shows or VA gun shows and be legal.

Also I heard it was a shotgun but haven't read the reports. I work not 5 minutes from the museum and drove past it on my way home and saw the flag at half staff. Just saw on the news that the guard died and that was why. Very sad.

Prayers for the family of the fallen guard.

Just wish all gun owners didn't get lumped in with people like this. I've been watching the new sites for the call for more gun control. SIGH.
