Has anyone had any experience with shipping handguns internationally?
    Can it be done?
    Legally?
    Illegally?

Yes, it CAN be done. Do you want to? No. Process is VERY similar to whacking yourself in the head with a hammer (cause it feels so good when you stop)

In addition to complying with the laws on the recieving end, you will need an EXPORT permit from the US State Dept. NOT the BATF, the STATE dept. It is going to suck the life out of you. Along with money.

There ARE firms that do this for a living. Contracting with one to do that would be your best bet.

Ok well what I was curious about, I'm pretty sure it cant be done?
I live in Australia, If you guys don't already know, gun laws are absolutely ridiculous over here and it is next to impossible to own a handgun.
I've always wanted to own a nice semi auto stainless pistol, a top dollar gun. Purely for keep sake and the occasional shot in the bush. I was just curious to see if it was possible to get one. Well at least one you know is new and it hasn't killed anyone.
Feel free to voice your opinions and thoughts.

I would check with an importer in your country.

Other than that, I would move. The gun laws in Australia is one of the reasons I've crossed it off as a place I would like to see.

Gun control means ONLY the criminals have guns. So find you a criminal and buy your gun.

Showtime- I do not usually lecture folks that are not my family- but-

If it is illegal to possess where you live, do not post here asking how you can break the law. And yes, I DO believe you just did that.

BAD Showtime. BAD. (whacks with rolled up newspaper)

To obtain an export permit, you will have to have the consent of the receiving government. You will not get that from the current Australian government.

There are times when handguns can be taken out of the country like legit hunting expeditions and international competition. IPSC world shoots are held all over the globe and the arrangements are made ahead of time. They are held in countries that allow handguns to be brought in.

If you were to try to simply box it up and ship it, you will likely face charges both here and abroad. Unpermitted exportation of firearms from the USA is a Federal Offense. It cannot be much better in Australia.

Posing such a question on an open forum is an invitation for scrutiny into your dealings and in bad taste as it can bring undo scrutiny on the forum.
