Doesn't really matter what the lower is. What kind of shooting do you want to do? Distances? Targets or game animals, if so, what type of game? Terrain, thick woods, open plains, swamps, or hills with clearcuts? Hunting from a stand or stalking?
what kind of distance ? 100 yards or 400 yards ?
Personally if your going to go with a scope I suggest a 1-4 power and dont buy the cheap P223 , I did a ton of research while shopping for my 1-4 and those things are a flip of the coin on wether or not you get a good one , and my understanding is they just dont hold up long to the recoil and seem to get a lens problem . I just bought a Nikon 1-4 Africa , after all the research I did I only found one out of several hundred reviews that had a issue and it was because the guy dropped his rifle out of a tree and it landed directly on the top front of the scope and broke a lens , read another one where the guy had dropped his rifle and the scope caught a ladder step and dented the tube really bad, the guy test shot it and it was still right on and he continued to use it. Waiting for it to get here, any day now
There are lots of great 1-4 scopes out there just check reviews and testing on the item your looking to purchase. Red dot is another option but if your varmit hunting with it I suggest a scope
