Does anyone know what all must be done in order to obtain a stamp to have a barrel shorter than 18 inches. And is that all you have to do or do you have to have a permit also? And also what age is required?

    All questions answered here:

    http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/national-firearms-act-firearms.html

Q: May a private citizen who owns an NFA firearm which is not registered have the firearm registered?

No. The NFA permits only manufacturers, makers, and importers to register firearms. Mere possessors may not register firearms. An unregistered NFA firearm is a contraband firearm, and it is unlawful to possess the weapon. The possessor should contact the nearest ATF office to arrange for its disposition.

i kinda of thought we covered all this yesterday, before the mods deleted the thread.

and BTW, you need the tax stamp in hand before you cut the barrel, not afterwards.

I destroyed the barrel from yesterday all I have now is the stock and chamber. I want to do it all legally so that's why I'm looking into getting all the paperwork and certifications for it before I purchase another barrel

not 100% sure, but i think you need to be 21 to possess any firearm thats classified under the NFA.

you will need to apply for the tax stamp and have it in your possession before making any modifications. IIRC, the cost is $200 per stamp.

you really need to read up on these subjects before just jumping into them. failure to heed these laws will land you in a 6'x9' prison cell for about 10 years and cost you the opportunity of ever owning or being in possession of a firearm again.

the BATF has little regard for good intentions or ignorance of the law when it comes to things they enforce. they require a person to follow exactly the letters of the law in regards to firearms. if you are unsure or in doubt, best suggestion is to leave things alone before it gets you into deep trouble.

OK, Yesterday you had "another 28" barrel" and now you need to purchase another barrel? I doubt the 14" barrel has "been destroyed". I am closing this thread, but leaving it up as a reminder that we do not tolerate illegal activity.

The next sound you will hear is ATF knocking at your door.
