well i finally got out this weekend and shot my new savage. I half *** broke it in: 10 shots cleaning after each one, and then i said f it and shot for group. I broke it in with really cheap 55gr fiococchi that shot like crap. But then i shot 20 of the rounds i had worked up. I was using remington cases, mag tech 7.5 primers 70 gr berger BTHP match bullets and Varget powder COL 2.235. Started with 23.4 gr of varget and worked up to 25gr.

First 3 groups measured about an inch to 1.5 moa, but the last group i shot was with a 25gr charge and it sucked all the shots in to just under .5 easily covered by a dime!!!!!!! I was pretty excited. First time i ever shot the rifle, and the absolute first ammunition i have ever made........... .5 moa:D

here is my only traget that i shot for group the first 2 groups start from right to left and they are a combination of 15 rounds with 3 powder charges and since they were kinda big i didnt keep track of them exactly, but when i shot my last group i moved over a bit and shot the final 5 shot group

    gun pictures to follow tomorrow

Very impressive Hot Sauce! And your barrel isn't even broken in yet! That gun got excellent reviews in the articles I've read in Shooting Times. All I use for match loads is Varget and Bergers. My LR308 made the same size groups at 100 yds. using 45.5 gr. of Varget behind 168gr Berger VLD HPBT. IMO they are the best bullets made!

It's really hard to beat the Savage for accuracy. Remington has gone to hammer forged barrels which has hurt their accuracy a little. The Savage still button rifles their barrels plus they just re tooled all their CNC machines and the tollerences have got even better on the gun parts than they were.

I really used to think that Remington was the rifle to have, but they have gone cheaper and Savage just keeps getting better.

Great groups. A little more break in and some load testing and she will shoot one small hole @ 100.

I have a Model 10 in .308 that shoots like it has eyes.

This may be a stupid question but: What caliber is it?

I use Varget and I am told it likes to be compressed. You may not have gotten enough compression below 25gr. My book shows 24.9 gr as starting load and 27.5gr as max.

    Yeah,It's a 223.

If I'm not mistaken,Hot Sauce sold this rifle not too long after posting this thread, and bnb1127 dug it out of its grave and reopened it.
