Someone wants to trade a Enfield made by savage to me..

He said its marked US property.... Just would like to know a little about it, Why would the US have Enfields? I know we made our own (M1917) but from what I understand Savage made them as a lend-lease for England, so why would it be marked US property? Would it have been used here? What would it be chambered in, .303 or .30-06? I know theres several models of Enfield, what ones would of Savage made?

Some reading for you. The Pattern 14 was in .303, the 1917 was in 30-06. Sounds like you may have a 1917, which was an EXCELLENT rifle if in good condition. Sgt Alvin York used one.

Savage made No4mk1* Enfields. They are U.S. property marked because of lend Lease. It should not Be a P14, That would be an odd find, but I don't think Savage made them. Usually the would be stamped W,R,or E for Winchester, Remington, Eddystone.

It is most likely a No4. Great rifles!!

I think it is a No.4Mk.1, I didnt know lend lease guns would be marked US Property... If you get a lend-lease Garand is it marked as such?

And the polite fiction with Lend-Lease was "We are not selling or giving this to Britain, because we are NEUTRAL- we are just loaning it to a neighbor. See? Says so, right there on the rifle."

Hey! I would love to find a P14 or M1917 that is a lend Lease. They are just sexy as h$ll. I buddy bought a 1917 M1917, just as the line was changing from P14's. It has a .30-06 chamber and a .311 bore. He got a button for a set of .30-06 dies and has a pristine shooter. I had sold him 1000 rounds of St Louis arsenal black tip, so he had to buy a Garand to shoot it. He had some key holeing when he 1st shot the '17. A Smith told him it was shot out and offered him $100.00. He brought it over and I measure the grooves w/ a micrometer, Hmm, so we took a cast. .311. Extremely strong rifling was the give away.
