so my step dad is looking for a savage 30-30 pump, he says he used to have one when he was a kid and would like to have another. So I have a few questions, when were they made? (i.e. production dates) and how common are they, because I have never seen one, thanks for any info.

    savage pump

the savage pump ....model 170 was made from 1970-81 in ''rifle'',from 1974-81 in carbine version. the rifle 22'' in 30-30 and .35 rem ...carbine 18.5 '' in 30-30 only . you can check gunbroker ,or some gun shows ...they were damn good rifles and ones in great shape go for about 300-350 $....dont know if they had recievers that were scope compatible ,but one could have them tapped and drilled ...would be a nice to have a picatinny rail base ,with tip off mounts. also by using the new leverevolution ammo it would be the perfect whitetail /hog gun out to 200-225yds...
