I went to the SF Gun Show at the Cow Palace and saw tons of high-capacity magazines for sale. Are they legal to buy again here in California? Did I miss something? I wasn't sure so I passed on some Ruger BX25 mags for the 10-22.

I doubt if they are legal except to LEO and the PRK has lots of LEO's. Some might have been pre-ban which may be legal but the Ruger mags are not pre-ban. Of course the BG's dont care what is legal and use them anyway in their illegal guns. I am sure those BG's that were fully armored and equipped with hi cap full auto weapons in that shoot out did not care.

My brother-in-law just bought a 30 round magazine for his ak here in san diego about a month ago. It was a parts/disassembled/complete kit and he tells me that you can have it as long as they are disassembled. As soon as you put it together, you break the law. The vendor he bought from also had 40 round mags as well.

The hi caps are available in a "rebuild kit" basically it's a full mag disassembled. It's not illegal to put them together but you cannot leave your house with them intact. It's these little nuisances that make California gun laws so inspirational for those that will find a way. Just like the magnetic tool for the bullet button that you store on the button. Just so happens it protrudes just enough to release the magazine.

I did see some of the "rebuild kits" that were clearly labeled as you guys said (not legal to assemble) but I also saw a ton of the factory Ruger BX-25 mags that were fully assembled in factory packaging that were for sale.

I'm sure the BATF has some people trolling the shows, don't they? Why wouldn't they pick up on that? Or has there been some change in the law that I don't know about?
