I hate to not contribute a lot of knowledge to your posts but I don't have a lot, 2 years into buying guns and ammo and so much to learn. You've helped me on my questions a lot, especially talking me out of buying the "pretty" new-built Garand and ordering a Correct Grade-CMP.

I'm interested in the newest S&W 22 with the flash hider (silly but looks better than the other one) but I can't tell by the picture if those are iron sights or something else. S&W article says w/flash hider and FLDING SGT. FLDING SGT?? Picture at R&R arms and also S&W but takes a while to get to it at S&W picture. Thanks in advance.

So far mine has been a reliable producer of once-used brass. More than 1000 rounds of cci with only 2 FSFs.

That said, this is my first rifle. I'm at a loss when it comes to selecting a sling, a scope and/or front grip. Any advice would be welcome.

S&W has an MOE (Magpul Original Equipment) version that will be out any day now.

yes i have had an out of battery condition and it took out my extractor. i called S&W sent the gun back they replaced the springs and extractor and not a problem since. not everyone is having this problem. you have to consider how many of these guns are sold and just the incidents you hear about. most people dont go out of their way to say hey i have a perfectly working firearm, just when something happens do you hear the negative. other than that my M&P 15/22 has become my favorite gun.

The number of M&P15-22s that have experienced problems has been extremely small. People tend to write about bad experiences they've had with particular guns of the various forums, yet the vast majority have no problems. I have 2 of these rifles and have never had an OOB firing or a lost extractor. I always use good quality ammunition and clean my rifles after each shooting session. I have several friends with M&Ps and they too have experienced no problems. So keep your rifle maintained and use good ammo and enjoy it.

Yes I do, mainly CCI 36 grn MiniMags and Federal 712s. My latest M&P is most accurate with Federal 710, 40 grn solids.

go over to the S&W Forum , the guys there mention serial numbers but i really dont pay that close attention to them. all i do no is to use the correct ammo and the problem doesnt seem as previlent. i have a letter from S&W on what ammo to shoot and what NOT to shoot. if you shoot me your email i will forward it to you. i tried attaching it to this post but its a PDF file and it will not allow me to attach. just stay away from any REMINGTON or subsonic bullets and you should be ok.

Hi james, never had an OOB with the 15-22, but I had a few with my CZ V-22 upper, until I polished out the chamber. Not to make light of it, but they usually don't amount to much with the .22lr. Not a MAJOR saftey issue IMHO.

Just makes a little louder bang and you'll see some smoke coming out of the reciever. Having said that, my grandkids love to shoot my .22s and they all know that safety glasses and earplugs are required at Granpa's range!:)

Mine eats the Federal #750 bulk pack 36gr hp like candy. It also likes the more pricey CCI Mini Mags. They sure are a fun little rifle.

no problems with 3 types of ammo

Bought one 3 months ago at Gander Mtn ($499 at all 4 gun shops here), was worried about the FTF/FTE deal, immediately went out in the country (7 below zero), fired into ditch one mag full of CCI, one full of Federal and one full of Blazer. Rapid fired the last half of each. Only FTF was about the 12th or 13th in the first mag of CCI. Others were perfect. My son ordered the new 15-22 w/flash hider from R & R arms $484 a week ago. I'd like to do something about the "naked" barrel but locally they all charge $100 to $150(Gander) to thread barrel plus whatever. Too much.

go over to S&W forum (see my earlier reply couple lines up) and search for a member named "beltfed" hes threading barrels for members for like $40 and the guys having it done are thrilled with his work.
