I have beautiful mint condition Mod. 29 but the firing pin and spring were gone when I got it.
I have the parts now but evidently I need a special tool to push the retaining pin into the hammer and firing pin.
Anyone know where I can find one?
    Thanks

Give me a pic to see which S&W hammer.

Sometimes, one can use a tie wrap, and a regular punch.

Or is the firing pin mounted in the frame?

the firing pin is mounted in a slot in the hammer itself.
I just didnt want to damage anything by driving it in. Is there a special tool to install the roll pin that hold the firing pin in the hammer?

Have you tried to align the firing pin and spring with a punch from the starboard side, start the retaining pin from port and use retaining pin to push out the first punch?

It can be done with regular punches purchased at a local hardware store if you are careful not to mark the hammer of the gun and use wood or plastic to absorb hits.

Better yet, buy a bench block.

    Stake with a center punch.

It is called a rivet to retain the hammer nose
