Hey guys looking to do some trading

Need to know a date on a s&w 638-3 revolver.

I think the serial number is crm62XX

Can anyone give me and idea? Also what does the -3 mean?

    Thanks

I'll call up my LGS tomorrow. He has a book with serial numbers in it. I'm sure he'll look it up for me.

In the meantime, I found this on the S&W forums. Might help:

    638 introduced in 1989
638-1 with minor changes also in 1989
638-2 with magnum frame in 1996
638-3 with internal lock in 2002 (current version)

When they make a change to the design they add a -#

THe info JWSchramm seems about as good as inf can be without getting a letter form Smith.

I wouldn't be able to tell you if that's a good trade. If you prefer the revolver over the shotty then I suppose it is. I recommend trying to find the approximate, even if its MSRP, monetary value of each before making the trade.

Sorry, my LGS can't help. The book he has doesn't deal with such new Smiths. Must be a little dated. You can try calling up S&W and get the manufacture date from them.

So she's yours now? You did the trade? If so, congrats. She's a beaut. And I bet she'll be a sweet shooter.

Update. Just put 20 rounds through it. Nice little gun. Shoots great. Although I guess im not much of a revolver guy. Will prob sell/trade it for something else. Or just load it up and put in the glove box.

    Thanks for all the info

Id keep it if it were me. I like revolvers, though. But yeah if you're not gonna shoot it much a glovebox gun would be a good choice for it.
