Ok I was lookin for some help with my dad's 686. He's lookin to sell it soon and we're wondering around how much it's worth. It's got a 4 inch barrel and is in great condition.

used price on the 686 can vary anywhere between 400 to 1000 dollars, depending on location and all the exact details of the gun.

Some pics, good quality close ups, and of all the markings would help.

Alright. I'll try to get some up. I'm pretty new to revolvers so I honestly don't have much of a clue.

Mine brand new 10 years ago was $500 stainless....it was a good deal then. Most places wanted 525 and and up.

    Great gun...

In my area I see them on a regular basis for 700+. I saw one for 1100, the state trooper or whatever model.

Drop the crane and tell us what it says on the inside of the frame. 686, 686-1, 686-2, etc. The number after the dash will also have an effect on value. The lower the number, generally the more value it will have.

I just checked it's a 686-1. I was just wondering what the difference was between the -1s and -2s

Changes in the design. Kind of like version number on computer software.

In this particular case, I don't know what those particular differences are, but if I can pry the computer away from my wife I could find some info.

As it is, we'll have to wait for somebody with more off hand knowledge than I have.
