Interesting...a foot low 4043?

Just my 2 cents worth, but after running a 500 of these things in a large metropolitan county and buying mine from the agency, we found that the low shooters were often applying "extra grip" just as they pulled the trigger forcing the muzzle down in anticipation of recoil with this weapon. It happens sometimes too on double action revolvers.

The barrel missalinement in the frame of a 4043 to shoot a foot low would probably be detrimental to the gun. I have found the the S&W 4043 to be an excellent defensive pistol. So don't give up hope on it. Give it some practice and time.

Just have fun!

No problem as the post only cost 2 cents ;-)

Cranky guns are fun to troubleshoot too as that is part of the hobby.

take care,

I too have bought a noncommissioned 4043 and it too is about a foot low....and is hard to believe that it is user error. Multiple gun advocates have shot this weapon with reoccurring results. If there is anyway to avoid this besides compensating by burying the sight it would be of great value to me.

Are you used to the DOA trigger? It's easy draw down the barrel with that heavy pull. Good chance that's the issue.
