Have been wanting one, just acquired. Taking it out today. Read on Guns America for sale site, one of the offerers mentioned will take 45 LC too. Never heard this. True?

The 25-2 fires the .45 ACP and .45 AR not the .45 Colt. The 25-5 fires the .45 Colt and .45 Schofield. I have owned a 25-2 Mdl. 1955 target for years. This is a fine handgun.:)

The .45 AR that he just mentioned up there ^^^ is the .45 Auto Rim. Does not need moon clips, which the ACP does need.

If you have room to load the thick rimmed 45 AR, or the equally thick .45 ACP in moon clips, then the gap between frame and cylinder is WAY to big for the skinny rimmed .45 Colt catridge.

S&W did make a few of the 25-2 in .45 Colt or with a second .45 Colt cylinder. The problem was that the cylinder was the same length as the .45 ACP cylinder and while that permitted .45 Colt factory stuff, it didn't permit properly loading some of the longer cast bullets. When S&W came out with the 25-5 in .45 Colt, they brought it out with the longer cylinder of the .44 magnum to allow the proper loading of the .45 Colt. Of course they also brought it out with a .455-.456" changer throat which typically killed accuracy. If you measure your 25-2 using pin gages you will probably find the throats .456" or so, as mine is, but in .45 ACP, due to the very small case and large primer, it doesn't seem to matter.

These are my Model 25-5, ca. 1985. Both have been very good companions in their day. Both .45 Colt.

This my Model 625 in .45 ACP. This was my first, and last stainless revovler. Also had a round butt, so I made the square butt type stocks to correct that. No longer have this gun.
