I know that these rifles are very similar, but in your opinion, which is a better deer rifle?

Ruger American, own an Axis and several Marlin X rifles. Marlin is a better rifle and I equate the Ruger American to a Marlin, not an Axis.

Id go with the savage. I love my 30-06 axis, .308 111, and my .22lr mk2 tr. All shoot amazing out of the box and only get better as you work with them. WARNING: stay away from the Remington 70. I will never own one of these, there bolt problems are a pita. And the receiver and barrel arenpress fitted together so when the barrel is junk so is the receiver. Anyways my vote goes to the savage, between these two, but like mentioned above I'd look into the marlin instead of the ruger. I don't have any experience with marlin bolt guns but if its anything like their levers itll be a good buy as well.

I am a Savage fan just not an Axis fan, the design is funky and I would miss the Accutrigger, so given the option of just one of those I would be tempted to give the new Ruger a try.
