The closest thing to a bear around here is a huge old hairy lady up the road and i don't think a 44 would take her out lol !

$500 is a good price if it's in good shape. I'd consider it.

sonic it's in perfect shape. I am seriously debating trading in my 357 for it and putting $150 boot cash I will still be ahead I see them selling for the $700 + range used. on a 1-10 it's a 8 it's in good shape I took 2 off for being fired before.

it's a dang good price if you have need of it or if was of use to you. but a 2.5" barreled 44 Mag. is not exactly a range gun! but it would make a bear stand up and take notice! if you have no real need for it, then IMO, it would be money wasted, because it would probably spend more time in a gun safe.

personally myself i shy away from guns that i would not use on regular basis or have a particular need for them, irregardless of the price. much better to spend the money on something that would be used and enjoyed.

Well I traded a bersa 9mm for a taurus judge poly protector yesterday and the judge will make a home invader stand at attention. A 44 for home defense may not be good if i kiss and hit the house next door lol

If they still have the gun after Christmas I might buy it. I like the idea of a 44 for SD. I live in a rural area. Shooting my neighbor is not an issue. I would prefer a 4" barrel. Part of self defense is shooting feral dogs and other animals that are threat to livestock. I also have grazing land in eastern NC were black bears are an issue. But the agricultural extension service has a person to deal with black bears that are feeding on calves or damaging crops. He traps or shoots the bears. He gives his best effort to relocate the bears.

the reason I passed is I just can't justify owning the nice gun. I am sure it will sell fast. I know I could have saved $200 on a hard to find firearm but justifying the purchased out of want was not a wise choice at this time.

I am sure I will get another opportunity for same or better protection. Remember I am opening a small swap shop in peoria soon never know what people are selling to get money to pay bills.

IMHO, a 2.5 inch barrel on a .44 magnum makes about as much sense as a 2.0 liter engine in an 18 wheel truck.

Well, to talk you out of it as you requested. It WOULD be useless. Rugers are not known for accuracy (u probably knew that) and the threat from black bears is pretty minimal. The thing is SO LOUD you'd have to upgrade your hearing aid after every range session. Expensive bullets and lots of powder (relativly speaking) even if you reload it's a pricey one to feed. Heavy, bad unless your a gangster wanna be, your pants will be dragged down constantly.
