This is my review of my new RIA M5 12 ga. shotgun. First of all this is an inexpensive not a cheap shotgun. I would put the weight between a Mossberg 500 and a Remington 870. Mine is the parkerized version. Comes with a heat shield. Mine has the 20" bbl. with bead sight. And a 4+1 capcity. Also a 3" chamber and a plus 2 speed feed type stock.

After breaking it down and cleaning it there are only 5 things I found to clean. the 2 part bolt, shell lifter, Trigger group and bbl. The trigger group is held in by a pin that is removed from right to left. and the trigger group then pivots out from rear to front.

Then the bottom of the bolt, shell lifter and main bolt can come out in that order. Total time to break down, clean and re-assemble was about 15 min. Over all it is a decent weapon.

Took it out to the range. I fired 100 rounds of winchester bulk pack bird shot, 5 rounds of remington 1oz slug and 4 rounds of Remington 00 buck.

I had some problems with the bulk pack winchester stuff. Mostly not wanting to feed or extract. I think it is because of the low brass and known issues of the bulk pack shells. With the buck and slugs all fed and extracted smoothly. The only thing I may do is polish the chamber.

Overall I think this is a solid well built shotgun. It is not at the price point of other name brands but it is at least up to if not surpassing the quality of the newer Remington 870 express.

Ill add to this since I was asked to review this shotgun as well. I am going to write it as if I never read yours or saw your post:

To start off out of the box this was covered in heavy oil. Even under the oil my brushed nickel finish looked great and the jewled bolt really stood out. Once wiped off the first thing I noticed was how smooth the slide runs. It might as well be rolling on ball bearings.

Upon further inspection, you can tell this is an inexpensive shotgun with some quality issues labed in pictures below. Machining marks and nicks on the receiver. A little overmould with the stock. Honestly nothing worth complaining about, but worth a mention.

With out an initial internal cleaning (I was too excited to clean it first) I took it out and shot Winchester bulk though it, and Winchester deer slugs. Performed famously even with known bulk pack issues that I will have in my Mossberg. Not even a hint of trouble.

I picked my gun up for 230 dollars, plus shipping, plus tax and FFL fees through my dealer. I am about 300 dollars into this shotgun, and very happy with it. The extra shell holder is a nice touch, even though its not a HD gun or a hunting gun. However with that being said, I feel very confident and would have no problem making this my home defense gun.

Here you can see the nick at the top of the receiver, from the factory

You can see on the ejection port this is not a clean, nice straight edge. Im not complaining but its worth a mention. Its a machined receiver, I do not know why its not a nice endge

    More semi rough edges

Machine marks on the inside of the receiver

Machine marks on the outside of the receiver

This is what I was talking about the overmould in the stock. Its not bad, but the edges are rough and a little high. Not on the same plane as the receiver. I dont personally care but being as this is still a review I will make mention of it. Its nothing you notice when shooting, just under careful inspection

Lastly, in the cold and with my bare hands, this grip is awfully sharp! I am going to knock the edges off a little because it really leaves a mark and gets uncomfortable rather quick when plinking (AKA putting lots of shots down range)

And here is a quick little video I made of how smooth the action is on this gun. You click the slide release by the trigger and it just falls. Its fantastic

In conclusion, its a well built, most likely durable, fun to shoot, reliable (so far) good looking shotgun. I already want another I like it so much. The action is smoother than any Mossberg or Remington I have ever shot. I have not handled anything nicer. However I did have some small finish issues here and there. Nothing I personally worry about, nor should anyone else who buys a 200 dollar shotgun. For what it is I think its fantastic.

very nice reviews guys! some very good information given about how they performed.

the small details in the finish and such are just that small details that i would have no problems with given the price of the shotgun. now as long as it functions and performs, these details mentioned would not deter me from buying one.

looks like winner so far. thanks again for posting the reviews.

Agreed..I would expect little things lie that being the cost of the shotgun. From what I see all of these are easily dealt with . I've not got a chance to shoot one but if I was in the market for another shotty I"d definably look at one of these after seeing these two reviews. Thanks guys!:)

Be interesting to see how well they hold up. They could have a winner at that price point.

IMO they are well worth the money. I used to be the armorer for my dept. I have seen Remington 870P's with more problems than these out of the box.

What about the ability to customize? Any information on putting. Pistol grip stock on and extended mag tube?

From what I read mossberg stocks fit with trimming at the point where it connects to the butt. I will pull both apart and verify and take pictures.

As far as the mag tube, it is a welded end so no extention can be added and would require a whole new tube. Numrich carries them online but are totally out.

Ok thanks. For $200 and then the mods it's still cheaper than the 870 or Mossberg
