I googled it and it said the minimum barrel length is 16" but I don't think that is right. Can someone convince me otherwise? On the model1sales website I saw a 10.5" barreled AR15 and it said it was a "registered short barrel" and I saw a 14.5" and it wasn't a "registered short barrel" but if the limit was 16" wouldnt the 14.5" be a short barrel too?

16" overall is the minimum length, so the 14.5" barrel would have a 1.5" comp permanently attached to it to bring the overall length up to 16" and make it a regular rifle

Yup, 16" overall length on a rifle, 18" on a shotgun. I havnt the slightest idea of why there is a difference.

14 1/2" with fixed hider. or 200 dollars for paper work to the atf for a chance to own a short barreled rifle. Or a short barreled upper would be used on a pistol. Basicaly 16" is the lenght of a barrel with or with out a welded or pined flash hider.
