I don't know if they still make it, but I once owned a S & W K-frame .22. It could hardly have had less recoil if I'd been firing blanks.

I have found that the 44 MAG has little to no recoil...as long as you don't pull the trigger:D
The 22s are the way to go. I assume that your purpose is to get someone (possibly yourself) into pistol/revolver shooting, if that is the case you asked the right question. A low recoil centerfire probably isn't the way to go, as the next "jump" up in caliber you will want to make will be much bigger than the lower recoil cals. And a good 22 never goes out of style.
